If you’ve heard of Bombshelter Beast, you will know that they’re one of the most interesting groups out of South Africa. Their sound is hard to pin-point and features elements of old school Kwaito & House, Drum n Bass, Dancehall, Dub, Ska, Balkan, Boeremusiek, Hip Hop, Ghoema, Rock, and the odd sneaky bit of Jazz, some rapping & live improvisations. Yes – they’re a lot to take in but what a spectacular they are! The group has been rather quiet on the new music front – until now. Bombshelter Beast has just announced two brand new singles which will be impacting radio soon.
The major first single is the raucous ‘Taka Takata’ – a little throwback to the days of Kwaito’s dominance. This old school classic features two legends of South African Hip Hop & Kwaito, Pitch Black Afro and Mapaputsi. The track was originally recorded as the title track for a comedy film featuring Trevor Noah and Kagiso Lediga, and the two top selling rappers added some super fresh freestyling to the session. The song mixes the sound of the joyous big street bands of old with the urban grittiness of kwaito beats and swinging freestyle rap!
The second single is ‘Madam Bliss’ – a remix of a South African Jazz Hip-Hop classic, featuring Zolani Mahola of Freshlyground-fame, and double-platinum selling rapper Pitch Black Afro – all muddled in with that special Bombshelter Beast flavour!
The new singles are extensions of the group’s recent record ‘Dance Of The Chicken’ and are available on all major digital platforms now.
