Craig Lucas Wins The Voice South Africa

Kahn Morbee has done it again! For the second year in a row, The Voice South Africa coach has managed to pick and coach the winner. After Richard Stirton took the title last year, tonight, Craig Lucas made history by becoming the second person to win M-Net’s nail-biting reality show.

The 23-year-old beat out runner-up Josh Ansley as well as Samantha Leonard, Caroline Grace Brussow, PJ Pretorius, Fatman and Luke Lovemore to take the title after a record-breaking 1,6 million votes were cast. Deloitte and Touche independently computed the voting figures for the competition and ensured the result was accurate after a few voting scandals rocked the competition this season.

Craig, who was one of the audience favourites right from the start, made his first foray into singing on stage with his soulful The Voice SA Blind Audition of “House of The Rising Sun”. The singer’s passion for music started at an early age but promised his mother to complete his studies before pursuing a career in music. Funnily enough, his stars aligned and his timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Craig delivered world-class performances week after week. His versatility was shown from the very start and his creativity earned him a spot in the hearts of many South Africans. In fact, he was such a treat to watch that Kahn called him “the love child of John Legend and Freddy Mercury”.

Now, after winning the show, Craig lands himself a recording contract with Universal Musi South Africa, R250 000 in cash from dialdirect, a Gear S3 smart watch, a Galaxy S8 smart phone, a Gear VR, a 360 camera, a Gear iconiX set and a 65 inch KS9500 SUHD TV from Samsung, a Subaru Impreza 2.0 Premium CVT and R100 000 of fashion from Truworths.

Craig is expected to head into studio over the next few days with a new single releasing in the next few weeks. “Thank you so much for voting and for your support,” Craig told his fans shortly after winning. “I never in my wildest dreams thought that this could be a reality. Thank you!” Congrats, Craig!
