The past year has seen a major shake-up in Fifth Harmony’s line-up. Camila Cabello announced that she was leaving the band and started working on her solo material. After collaborating with the likes of Shawn Mendes, Machine Gun Kelly, Cashmere Cat and Major Lazer, amongst others, the girl-group had to adjust to being one member down. However, Fifth Harmony are officially back and have just dropped their first single as a four-member group.
‘Down’ is a bit of a jam reminiscent of the group’s smash hit ‘Work From Home’. The group slow things down and remind us just how strong their vocals are. Besides the chorus, each member gets her time in the spotlight. The track also features a rap from Gucci Mane. Honestly, I expected a little bit more from the group – especially for such a momentous point in their career. The track sounds like it’s missing something and doesn’t pack the punch a lead single should.
The group has also opened up about their highly-anticipated new album which is scheduled for release later this year. Normani Kordei admitted that “We’re not the same people we were a year ago. We’re not even the same people we were two months ago.” The star adds that “You’ll hear our growth and maturity reflected in the music we’re creating. We’ve been working really hard. And this is the first time personally that I’ve vibed out and turned on Fifth Harmony on my own because I love the songs so much. We’ve literally been vibing out to our own album.” We hope the group have something special up their sleeve because they will need something a lot stronger than this track – especially since Camila’s new music has been on fire lately.
