He’s one of country music’s hottest young stars and as he prepares the release of his upcoming third studio album, Thomas Rhett joins forces with Grammy winner and newcomer Maren Morris on ‘Craving You’, the lead single off the project – and it’s the perfect mix of country and pop!
Despite being a massive genre, county music slides under the shadows of pop, hip-hop and even dance music. However, artists like Thomas Rhett are hoping to break that boundary. In ‘Craving You’, the country song is mixed with some catchy pop elements and proves that the genre doesn’t necessarily need to be a niche. Thomas is one of the most exciting names in country music at the moment. His crisp vocal, attention to detail and love for a well-written song helps him stand out from the crowd and his talent shines bright on ‘Craving You’. The instrumentals are fantastic and while Maren doesn’t add much to the song, her harmonies are lovely to listen to.
“I remember hearing ‘Craving You’ and was immediately blown away by the story behind the longing of this guy who can’t wait to see his girl again,” Thomas says. “There’s this ’80s vibe that’s rocking throughout this track that makes it really euphoric. It was so nice to be able to work with Maren, whose voice is undeniably powerful and soulful, and just really adds a lot of intensity to the song.” Thomas adds that listening to artists like Drake, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande helped him push himself. I’m so intrigued by how amazing pop records sound when they come on the radio,” he says. “Sometimes I feel like if you compare a pop record to one of my songs it just sounds crisper and a little clearer. I wanted to get that vibe on this song.” These days, blurring genre lines is a big thing and it’s great to see so many artists taking advantage of that.
