2017 has been a massive year for Ed Sheeran. After a social media hiatus in 2016, the singer travelled the world and recorded music for what would be his third studio album ‘Divide’. He kicked off 2017 with a bang releasing ‘Castle On The Hill’ and ‘Shape Of You’ as duel-lead singles off the project and saw them both becoming one of the biggest singles of the year so far.
He then released the album on the 3rd of March and shattered records across the country. Now, a month after release, Warner Music South Africa has confirmed that the album has sold over 30 000 copies across the country – officially giving it platinum status.
Massive sales are expected to continue now that a physical deluxe edition of the album is officially in stores and the new single off the project, ‘Galway Girl’ picks up on radio stations across the country. Going platinum is an impressive feat and it proves that South Africans can’t get enough of the singer. Who knows, maybe now he’ll consider touring the country and performing live for his thousands of fans across the country.
