ZAYN is back! After releasing just two singles off his debut album ‘Mind Of Mine’ which was released in March last year, the singer and former One Direction star is back. Today, he releases ‘Still Got Time’ featuring Canadian rapper PARTYNEXTDOOR. The song serves as the lead single off his upcoming second studio album which is scheduled for release later this year.
The track is hot off the heels off his massive collaboration with Taylor Swift, ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’, off the ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ soundtrack. The song has a subtle, upbeat sound to it. The song is laid down on a groovy electronic, guitar-plucked beat which is a lot less moodier than the material which appeared throughout ZAYN’s debut record. In fact, it’s got a massive tropical feel to it. The chemistry between the two artists is great and I like the direction the song has taken ZAYN but, honestly, I don’t think this is going to be the hit he is expecting it to be. The song stays on one level giving it a very monotonous sound and lacks that x factor. The singer has a fantastic voice on him and, unfortunately, he doesn’t showcase it here. Sure, it’s not a bad song but it’s an album filler at best. After hearing ‘Mind Of Mine’ and reading his book, I know ZAYN has a lot more to offer making this an incredibly underwhelming release.
Despite this, I’m really excited ZAYN is back with new music. I really enjoyed his debut album despite the lack of commercial success (I blame the single choices). ZAYN is a massive creative and I’m very excited to see what he does on the next record.
