Late last year American pop group Maroon 5 dropped ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ featuring Kendrick Lamar as the lead single off their upcoming album and while the group put the finishing touches on the record, they’ve teamed up with yet another rapper on their new single. Maroon 5 and Future have just released ‘Cold’ alongside an epic music video – and I love it.
Much like ‘Don’t Wanna Know’, Maroon 5 opted for a gentler, mid-tempo production as Adam sings about strained relationship. The direction works in the group’s favour as it’s something different from the majority of the pop tracks on radio at the moment. Adam doesn’t belt out his vocals this time around and gives a more emotional performance while still showcasing his beautiful, unique voice. Future is the perfect fit for the song. His verse adds a fantastic layer to the song and the chemistry between the artists blends well. The song was also co-written and co-produced by Benny Blanco who is behind Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” amongst others.
The video for the track is brilliant. The video follows Adam who gets a call to pop through to Future’s house to hear the verse for the track. However, everything goes south when he’s there. “It was weird. Somebody slipped something into my drink. I think it was acid because I started tripping balls. Future turned into a teddy bear and James was getting blown by a chicken. It was crazy,” Adam tells wife Behati Prinsloo at the end of the video (which features her as well). The song has made me very excited for the new Maroon 5 record which drops everywhere in the next few months.
