Local pop singer Ashlinn Gray burst onto the scene last year when she released her smash hit singles ‘Battleships’, ‘Chex Ballet’ and ‘Nineteen’. The singer has made a major impact with her music and now, the star slows things down as she shows us a different side of her with her new single ‘Finding Home’ – the latest single from the RADA Unearthed compilation.
‘Finding Home’ shows us a more vulnerable side of the singer as she pours out her emotions in song. The song comes from a place of hurt and feeling lost – something many of us can identify with. The ballad does away with most of the theatrics and thus, Ashlinn is able to put her vocal ability on full display. Ashlinn has a powerful instrument and understands how to use it – something that gives her a major advantage. The song reminds me a lot of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’, both in the composition of the song and the emotional lyrics and it’s proof yet again that the singer is on the road to becoming one of the strongest pop stars in the country.
“It’s letting go of the things that are holding you back from being the best version of yourself,” Ashlinn says of the song. As mentioned, the song appears on the RADA Unearthed album and is the next single after Believe by Howie Combrink, Free by Naming James and Undefeated by Caroline Borole. RADA, in all their endeavours, strive to effect change. An acronym for rape, alcohol, drug and abuse, RADA aims to combat addictions by building comprehensive renewal centres worldwide. While involved in various CSI initiatives, the non-profit company also contributes to the arts through the project RADA Unearthed. The project’s aim is to unearth new talent, as well as give artists a platform to showcase their talent and in turn raise awareness for RADA itself. Since music is so integral to human life and has the power to change lives, the belief is that the music would bring a message of hope and restoration to people’s lives. ‘Finding Home’ is another strong release from Ashlinn and I’m excited that she has challenged herself and released a song like this.
