Patty Monroe Announces Debut Album ‘Malatjie’

Patty Monroe has made a large and powerful impact on the local music scene since dropping her Sketchy Bongo-produced debut single ‘Talk’ back in mid-2015. Since then, the singer released the hits ‘High Fashion’ and ‘Castles’ and after months of hard work in the studio, the rapper has finally announced that her debut album, ‘Malatjie’, will officially release at the end of this month.

The title is derived from the word Malletjie – an original Cape Coloured slang word meaning “someone not quite right in the head.” However, being the creative that she is, Patty mixed it up and made the word her very own and has changed the word’s meaning to “those that choose to be different and not confined by any limitation.”

Patty has had the opportunity to work with some incredible producers on the album. Each of them are so different with their production styles which is bound to make this record incredibly interesting sonically. Patty has worked with Chopstix, the renowned Nigerian producer, Bushington from Uganda, Sketchy Bongo, long-time collaborator Muzi , Ameen Harron, Deemo and Psyc’.

The star has also teamed up with world-renowned photographer, Sasha Waldman, the man who photographed 50 Cent’s ‘Get Rich Or Die Trying’ cover and while the cover is yet to be released, Patty promises it’s of epic proportions. “I had a vision of what I wanted my album to sound, look and feel like, after listening to it once Sacha had IT and delivered above and beyond expectations,” she says. “I’m super excited for the Malatjies to experience my debut album.”

The album releases everywhere on the 27th of January 2017. Patty has delivered some quality pieces of music throughout her short career and I’m excited to see what she brings to the table with her debut album.
