Local R&B sensation, ASH, made history as the first South African artist to sign to Warner Music South Africa last year. Since then he has released the hit singles ‘Temporary Lover’, ‘Ain’t Looking For Love’ and ‘Been Waiting’ while recording his debut studio album. Now, after months of hard work, ASH drops ‘Ash Muzik’ today.
Not only does ASH have an incredible vocal ability, but he wrote and arranged each of the 13 tracks on the album and teamed up with the Deceptikonz on the production.
Although only releasing his album now, ASH has already had an impressive career within the entertainment industry. Dance has always been an important form of expression for the singer. At just 2 years old, he won his first dance competition, busting his moves to Michael Jackson, and by 16 he was on TV, dancing in various TV commercials, before moving on to the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance, where he placed in the top five.
Musically, ASH’s interested started in church where he played the drums. After working on his craft for years, ASH joined forces with Warner Music South Africa and his career took off from then. “At some point, I realized I wanted to be the whole package’ – up until then singing had been my hobby, but after touring the world for 3 years as a dancer and back-up vocalist in a Michael Jackson tribute tour, I found I had something to say, I found my voice,” the singer reveals.
Shortly after signing the deal, ASH opened for Trey Songz on his recent South African tour and his debut single ‘Temporary Lover’ became his first number one hit. Now, ASH is ready to show the country what he is made of with his full album release. “It’s all real, it’s all me. The album says a lot about my ups and downs, I know everyone goes through these things in life and I’m excited to share my story with the world and hopefully inspire my fans,” ASH says on the personal record which releases today.
The album sees ASH explore rhythmic R&B jams as well as exploring elements of hip-hop and he has managed to create something unlike anything else in the local music industry. He’s put in the hard work and now, it’s his time to shine. ‘Ash Muzik’ is available now on all digital platforms and will be in stores around the country from the 14th of October.
