Twenty One Pilots are bringing one of the biggest moments of their career to cinemas — and South African fans won’t have to miss out.
The genre-bending duo will release a new concert film chronicling their career-defining, sold-out Mexico City stadium show from The Clancy World Tour, where Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun performed to 65,000 fans in one of the world’s most electric music capitals. The film lands in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited run beginning February 26, with exclusive IMAX previews kicking off February 25.
In South Africa, Ster Kinekor will screen the film at select cinemas in Cape Town and Johannesburg, giving local fans the chance to experience the spectacle on the biggest screens possible. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.sterkinekor.com/f/twenty-one-pilots-more-than-we-ever-imagined/474.
Titled ‘Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined’, the film blends explosive live performance footage with rare, intimate behind-the-scenes access, following the band from their arrival in Mexico City through to the moments before they step on stage. Along the way, viewers are let in on the preparation, anticipation and emotional weight behind one of the most significant nights of the band’s career.
Shot with more than 20 cameras, the film places audiences everywhere at once — from sweeping aerial shots of the packed stadium to on-stage perspectives and crowd-level moments that capture the intensity of the fans. Exclusive commentary from Joseph and Dun reflects on the long road that led them there and the deep bond they share with their global fanbase.
Director Mark C. Eshleman, who has followed the band for over a decade, says the film captures two parallel journeys. “I have spent the better part of the last 16 years of my life following Twenty One Pilots around the world,” Eshleman shares. “I have seen them play clubs that were in the basements of bigger clubs… They would chat for hours, fine tuning the show basically no one saw. Their fingers never leave the pulse of the performance; they swear by preparation and a vision.” He adds, “For More Than We Ever Imagined, we were given the opportunity to capture two perspectives of a Twenty One Pilots performance: over 20 cameras centered around the fans experiencing their show and, the second, the perspective I have had all these years leading up to that sold-out stadium in Mexico City.”
Trafalgar Releasing’s Kymberli Frueh, EVP of Programming and Content Acquisitions, says the film represents a major milestone for the band. “From building an audience one fan at a time to becoming a global touring force, Twenty One Pilots continue to redefine the magic of concert tours,” Frueh says. “This all-new film marks their second time bringing a concert experience to cinemas — and their first with IMAX — delivering the scale, sound, and shared energy that make it feel as close to being at the live show as possible.”
