Get ready for 12 weeks where the sweet, the spicy and the salty will come together in a battle to be crowned everyone’s favourite flavour.
Serving up the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly over the past 11 years, Come Dine with Me South Africa is back with a brand-new season. With almost 2000 filming days across 8 seasons and 1200 courses served, the critically acclaimed hit is returning to screens on Wednesday 12th October, on BBC Lifestyle (DStv channel 174) at 8pm. Narrated once again by the hilarious voiceover legend Dave Lamb, the knives (and forks) are out but who will take home the 10,000 rand cash prize?
Fans can once again look forward to the popular show format, which follows four home cooks as they each host a three-course dinner party for the other contestants at their own homes. Competitors then rate the host’s food and hosting skills at the end of each evening, with the highest-scoring entertainer winning a R10 000 cash prize.
Season 8 brings 12 new episodes featuring the most dynamic, energetic and eccentric contestants. From contending with a ‘spot’ of load shedding leading, boiling potatoes on the braai, a foot’ ‘’Show & Tell’’ and uniquely entertaining party tricks. This season’s contestants are bringing the heat to show off their skills in the hopes of taking home the cash prize.
Meet the vibrant personalities
From Johannesburg based animal lover, Melanie nicknamed the Zookeeper, whose backyard is filled with 80 Koi fish, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and her bestie Peppa the pig to self-proclaimed perfectionist (there’s always one!), foodie and home executive Qudsiya there’s a host of personalities to keep things interesting throughout the season.
What’s on the menu

First Up!

First Up!
Week one kicks off in the North of Johannesburg with four colourful and creative personalities – Master yogi Paiger, Bachelor Brendan, Creative Cool-cat Mandisa, and Home-exec Qudsiya.
It’s night one and yogi Paige is the first to host. She goes full force with her Afrikaans inspired menu, loaded up with big pieces of meat, loads of butter and a Driehoek Kaaskoek to finish it off. Her not-made-to-order steaks set her back but a round of party tricks save the day with ventriloquism, contortion, and sound effects on offer.
On night two Bougie Brendon kicks off in the style of a true actuary, calculated and clean! With Harry Potter wand in hand, he whips up an impressive 3 course meal fit for a Michelin star; for starters Handkerchief pasta on a Sweet Corn Veloute, for the main Roasted Lamb and a truffle infused Wild Mushroom Risotto, and for dessert his take on a deconstructed Banoffee Pie. Not just a feast for the eyes and the belly, but one for the heart too, leading the conversation to Brendon’s relationship status.
It’s night three and Mandisa is ready to make art in her kitchen. Her dress code “The best version of yourself” reveals synergy in the group when all arrive in matching pink accents. Her opening act, an Indian inspired Dhal Makhani receives mixed reviews from her two India-loving guests Paige and Qudsiya. She tries to bring it back with a health bowl and a song but it’s her Ample Crumble dessert with a side of feet that really steal the show.
The final host is married mom of two Qudsiya, she turns up the heat with spice at every stage of the night from a chilli infused welcome drink to a painfully hot game of truth or dare. She serves an abundance of food, proving that in her home more is more! For starters she served Fish Tikka and Mussels, for the main a South African Indian dish comprising of multiple smaller dishes that left her guests overwhelmed, and finally her favourite Pakistani dessert Rasmalai. No doubt Paige was in heaven but was her feast from the East enough to tantalise the tastebuds of Mandisa and Brendan and grab the cash prize?
To tantalise more than just your taste buds, tune into Come Dine With Me South Africa every Wednesday at 8pm from 12th October on BBC Lifestyle, DStv Channel 174.
