Zakes Bantwini is the undisputed king of the dancefloor and shocked fans by premiering his surprise new single ‘Osama’ – and it’s a bigger smash than we thought it would be.
The song, in collaboration with Kasango, serves as the lead single off the star’s upcoming studio album ‘Ghetto King’ and has already had a massive impact on streaming charts around the country.
The song begins with the referential theme song for hit television show ‘Knight Rider’. The introduction is similar to the car as it transports the listener into the atmospheric world of the song. Instrumentally, the single builds into a cacophony of synthesised hi-hats and keys delivering an afro-electronic dance single.
Lyrically, Zakes Bantwini continues to use music to advance his ambition of a united African and global state. This is as the word osama, in urdu denotes lion, well-wisher or a helping hand. Bantwini layers his vocals with additional vocals to provide a single which sounds like a call to action.
‘Ghetto King’ will feature 11 tracks consisting of singles which straddle and fuse house signposts including afro, electro and deep house. Zakes Bantwini takes listeners on a journey which “is half prayer and half aspiration but grounded in speaking to the Black experience.”
