Local rocker sensation James Deacon has come to the point in his career that whenever he drops a new single, we already know it’s going to be a bop. The star is back with a new single this week titled ‘For You’ and, again, isn’t afraid to dig deep and get real sharing personal stories through his music.
On ‘For You’, James opens up about his trials and tribulations of being addicted to nicotine. “This song is about cigarettes! I’ve had a love hate relationship with them since I was 16 and finally managed to quit and write a song about it!” the star explains.
He adds that “Smokers will get it, non-smokers will think it’s about a girl, so I just hope both parties can put aside their differences and enjoy the track equally.”
James’ signature genre-bending style shines with his awe-inspiring musicianship in this modern day alternative classic. His soulful yet husky vocals are backed by a slickly-produced, banging beat that’s peppered by grungy guitar riffs and bold, heart tickling bass lines.
The star also premiered an official music video to the track which, interestingly, was shot on an iPhone. “In this gritty and upbeat video, DIY style ‘Fight Club’ meets ‘Sin City’ in representation of one’s chaotic relationship with addiction, and gradual decline in control,” creative visionary Kyle Kemink says of the video.
The track officially forms part of James’ upcoming EP which will be released later this year.
