Local singer/songwriter Majozi is responsible for some of the biggest radio hits to come out of the country over the past year and while in lockdown, the singer, like many out there, found himself missing the stage. However, a lucky crossing of paths led Majozi to team up with Gearworx Techincal Solutions and the idea to record studio sessions of some of his biggest hits came to life.
To date, Majozi has released four of the videos he shot with the team which show off a more intimidate, stripped-back side of his music.
Talking about the project, Majozi tells us that “I feel so blessed to actually have these videos. A couple of guys in my band own a sound Company called Gearworx Techincal Solutions, and kind of pitched the idea of us doing something together. I was so keen but also never thought it would happen because I simply just didn’t have the budget for it and lockdown was in full effect. But, somehow things started coming together.”
Majozi explains that “The country opened up a little. We got a venue for free that was kitted out with lights and sound and then some more generous people jumped onboard with cameras and their time.”
The singer adds that the project came to life because of people who were simply passionate about music and wanted to make magic with the idea that had been brewing. “It really would’ve never happened without the generosity and kindness of others. When we finally got together, we were all just really excited to see each other,” Majozi says. “To be honest, that was my favourite part of it. Seeing other people and just realizing how awesome people are. We all missed the magic of human interaction. We had fun and recorded some of my favourite songs and decided to put it up for free on YouTube so that everyone can enjoy it. The one thing that Covid-19 and Lockdown has taught me is that there are some amazing people out there, and even though things are crazy and seemingly hopeless, I’ve seen people stepping up to help others and that’s what gives me hope.”
To date, the singer premiered videos for ‘Someday’, ‘Fire’, ‘I Want Your Love’ and ‘Darling’. “I’d like to thank everyone involved. Deon Knipe, Nick Parker, Aston Wylie, Shaun Brown, Jarred Venter, Annique Bester, Freddie Reed, Jesse Maree, Curt Thomas, Sarah Lamont. You are all legends. Thank you!”
