Jethro Tait is a phenomenal songwriter and opening up about his depression and anxiety in his latest single ‘Sad’ has made him even more relatable. Originally released as a mid-tempo ballad, Jethro is ready to bring the song to virtual dancefloors around the country as DJ Aidin Caye gives the track a techno remake.
Aidin Caye brings his own perspective to the downbeat original with his signature melodic sound. While still paying homage to the emotive nature of the original and its singer/songwriter roots, the essence of the song is not lost. With elements of the original groove, this new version brings you hard hitting bass tied together with uplifting chords and a dark new vocal melody that’s guaranteed to get you going on your next Zoom party.
Jethro admits that ‘Sad’ is an incredibly personal track and one he is very proud of. Earlier this year, Jethro explained that the song was shaped and inspired by three main ideas. “Firstly, I’ve always struggled with over thinking and depression. The latter makes me feel sad a lot of the time and my outlook on life isn’t always as positive as I would like it to be. This is the most surface level of the song.
He adds “Then I’m very introverted, so social situations are very difficult and stressful for me. In my experience people struggle to understand that I’m just a quiet person and they try to get more out of me than I am able to give. Lastly, the song is about me trying to accept and own these parts of who I am. It’s me opening up about my depression and social anxiety and expressing that, although I sometimes wish I felt differently or was more social, I don’t want to apologise or feel bad about it anymore.”
Already a hit on radio, Aidin Caye’s remix gives the song new life and shows off his exceptional production skills flawlessly. Get your dancing shoes ready and listen to Aidin Caye’s remix of ‘Sad’ here:
