There’s an exciting new face in the local entertainment space who has been called Mzansi’s very own Ariana Grande. Blending the pop, R&B and amapiano genres in an incredibly unqiue way, Tyla has piqued the interest of thousands of people around the country thanks to her Kooldrink-assisted single ‘Getting Late’ – and she’s even starting to make waves internationally.
The song, initially released in 2019, is about being patient when it comes to a new relationship. While the song got some attention on its release, Tyla and Kooldrink relaunched the song with a cinematic music video which has raised the bar when it comes to companion videos on the continent.
In the video, Tyla lives a luxurious life with her friends while being wooed by love interest Kooldrink. In a bid to win her over, Kooldrink steals some money to buy Tyla an expensive Rolex. The clip sees the relationship blossom while Tyla enjoys some time with her girlfriends.
“I don’t know if it’s the hottest video South Africa has ever seen, that’s for you to decide,” Tyla said in a recent interview adding that the music video’s production started over a year ago. “But what I do know is that I had never imagined in my life to look at something that I had made and be so proud, even if it only gets 270 views on YouTube and my career falls flat on its face. We sacrificed and lost a lot for this little 5 minute movie, and I’ve never felt as close to my dreams as I do now. I pray that you guys love it just as much as I do.”
