What a moment! South African comedian, Trevor Noah, officially took over as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show last night. Naturally, the first episode is always a risky one but the comedian comfortably took over the chair from Jon Stewart and gave a pretty decent debut.
Trevor started the show with a bit of a tribute to the former host and admitted that getting used to a new host isn’t easy. “Truth is now I’m in the chair and I can only assume that this is strange for you as it is for me. Jon Stewart was more than just a late night host, he was often our voice, our refuge and in many ways our political dad,” Trevor said in his opening monologue. “And it’s weird because dad has left. And now it feels like the family has a new stepdad… and he’s black.”
Sure, there were ups and downs on the show’s first episode but the general reaction from the United States was a positive one. Catch the show every weeknight on Comedy Central at 21h00.
