TRESOR’s Inspirational Story: “This Dream Ain’t Just Mine”

Tresor-Riziki

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting musician Tresor a few times. Granted, I don’t know the dude too well, however, his story has always inspired me. He was known as the car guard who managed to get signed to a major South African label, release some banging singles and ultimately signing with one of the biggest dance labels in the world – Ultra Music. However, in a Facebook post today, the singer admits that there is so much more to his incredible story. If this doesn’t make you believe in your possibilities, I don’t know what will! Tresor, you are an inspiration, my dude!

This dream ain’t mine.

I grew up in War.Born in war a torn country DRC. I come from a small beautiful city at heart of Africa called Goma. I am from a region often classified as the worst living place for women because of rape % and human atrocities. I saw the Rwandan genocide aftermath before unfold my eyes. Goma was ravaged by a volcano eruption and we lost everything in 2001.

Lost both parents when I was 17 in 2003. My family was divided among relatives so we could survive. In 2007, I took a major leap of Faith on my own and travelled throughout Africa by foot, car and train. I even crossed a crocodile infested river and walked crazy African wild parks. I nearly lost my life many times. I was so young and this fire within was pushing me to do things I didn’t believe I had in me. Something happened in me after the death of my parents, I was very sad but suddenly I became fearless.

After a long and hard 3 month journey through Africa, I arrived in Durban South Africa end of 2007. I was met with love and care from strangers both Congolese and South African. I worked as a car guard and security guard in the city. Life was very hard and the nights were very cold. My pride was broken. I tasted what it is like to be at the end of the rope. I kept going. Learned how to speak English so I could write pop songs.

Fast forward 7 years later I have a debut album in stores throughout South Africa. Today my music has been released around the globe by all the biggest labels in the world (Universal Music Group,Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment) and we just sealed a worldwide deal with Ultra Records! I am still shocked though I worked hard and pushed for it, it’s still a blessing to live this dream. Everyday, I work with people I always dreamed of working with. In my eyes, I am still the same young man from a small city with big dreams only armed with faith and hope though I have started to believe, this dream ain’t just mine alone. I believe,I’ve been chosen to carry it for the future Kings and Queens. For kids from Africa and around the world born in war torn countries and living with broken dreams. This dream ain’t just mine ‪#‎AfricaRising‬
