Last night, the first South African Starbucks store launched in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The event was attended by the South African media, celebrities and influencers as they became the first to experience the brand’s product range before they officially opened the store to the public this morning. There has been a lot of hype around the brand’s introduction to the South African market and after my experience last night, I’ve put together five reasons why you need to get yourself down to the store ASAP!
1) It’s Starbucks! Duh!
The first reason is the most obvious one. It’s Starbucks. We’ve seen the brand’s influence in so many films, TV shows, friend’s pictures on Facebook and if you haven’t had the chance to travel overseas and taste the product for yourself, why not tick that off your list? The brand is incredibly powerful and it was only a matter of time before it started infiltrating Africa. Now, you can taste the Caramel Frappuccino yourself! Yippe!
2) The Inaugural Store Is Beautiful.
Starbucks’ first store in Rosebank is huge. Not only is the decor on fleek but it’s the perfect place to come for a drink with friends, conduct business meetings or spend the day working on their superfast wi-fi. No cent was spared here.
3) The Coffee
I’ve seen a lot of people on social media saying that Starbucks’ coffee isn’t even that good. Sure, you can get fantastic coffee elsewhere but Starbucks has made sure that their blends are the very best. Even their simple Americano is made from high quality coffee beans – and the proof is right there in the pudding. The Rosebank store even has a Reserve Bar which features the most incredible coffee sourced from around the world made in the most unique way. Watch the video below and see why visiting the Reserve Bar is a must.
4) It’s Not Just About The Coffee
Sure, Starbucks is a coffee-house but they offer so much more. Besides their Frappuccinos, juices and other delicious beverages, Starbucks also offers a wide variety of sandwiches, cakes, cookies and a whole lot more. I mean, what’s a cup of coffee without a serving of delicious carbs, you know?
5) It’s Reasonably Priced!
Yes, Starbucks has cemented itself as a sort of premium brand around the world. In fact, a Caramel Macchiato costs between R50 and R66 in the United States. Here, the same product costs between R32 and R38. So yes, the prices have been adjusted to the local market and although they are a bit higher than other coffee stores, it’s not high enough to keep us away.
