The former models are back in a goofier, crazier film.
Starring: Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson
Plot: Former models Derek Zoolander and Hansel find themselves thrust back into the spotlight after living in seclusion for years. Invited to a major fashion event in Rome, the estranged friends are surprised to see how much the business has changed. Even more shocking is their encounter with Valentina Valencia, a special agent who needs their help. Someone is killing famous pop stars, and it’s up to Derek and Hansel to help save the world’s most beautiful people from a similar fate.
Remarks: The original Zoolander film became a comedic classic since it’s release in 2001. Now, 15 years later, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson bring the loved characters to life once again but I can’t help but feel this resurrection wasn’t needed. Much like the original Zoolander film, Zoolander 2 is filled with slapstick comedy, filthy jokes and tons of ‘Blue Steel’ looks. The story was great but I feel like they could have done a lot more with it. The chemistry between Ben and Owen is there but for some reason, I just couldn’t connect to the characters (despite really enjoying the first film). That being said, the one thing I really enjoyed was the amount of celebrity guests who made a cameo in the film. Justin Bieber, Sting, Katy Perry, Tommy Hilfiger, Skrillex, Naomi Campbell, Valentino, Anna Wintour, A$AP Rocky, Susan Boyle, Marc Jacobs and many more featured in the film and gave the film an edge. I just feel we have moved on from that kind of comedy and I didn’t find myself laughing as much as I thought I would. The acting was also really irritating and, unfortunately, this is one sequel that shouldn’t have been made. However, if you enjoyed the first film, you might as well watch the sequel.
Rating: 1.5/5
