Review – Years & Years – Communion + WIN A COPY!

Years & Years
Communion (Universal Music)

Breakdown: They’re one of the most exciting breakthrough acts of 2015 and British electronic trio, Years & Years, have officially dropped their debut studio album ‘Communion’. The album was preceded by the smash hit ‘King’ as well as their brand new single ‘Shine’ which is racing up the local charts.

How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 13.

What I Liked: There is something so unique about these guys, and to be honest, it’s a breath of fresh air. Lyrically, each and every track is able to tell a beautiful story and transports the listener into the band’s world. The band is clearly inspired by the 80’s synth sound but they have managed to use this inspiration in ways that makes it current and relevant today. Olly Alexander, the band’s lead singer, also has an incredible vocal and uses it brilliantly in so many different ways on this record.

What I Didn’t Like: Years & Years have, unfortunately, found a sound that works for them and have used this throughout the whole album, causing me to get bored by the end of the record. Many of the tracks seem to follow a similar recipe which works, but isn’t long-lasting.

Best Track: King

Rating: 3.5/5
