Review: Transformers: Age of Extinction

This time, the autobots take on the human race.

Starring: Mark Whalberg and Nicola Peltz

Plot: This is the first film in the reboot that doesn’t feature Shia LeBeauf and his bromance with Bumblebee. It also sees Mark Whalberg’s first appearance in the franchise. In the film an automobile mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that promises to bring down the Autobots and Decepticons, but first they have to avoid a paranoid government official who is hell-bent on stopping them. The film takes a look at how humans have ended their treaty with the autobots, but when the mechanic frees Optimus Prime, they realize that there is a much bigger danger on their hands.

Remarks: Are you kidding me? This is freaking Transformers! Naturally, the CGI and special effects are out of this world and this time around Michael Bay really does go all out. I liked Mark Whalberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor’s characters and they all had this incredible chemistry between them which was great to see. I’m not going to lie though, I did miss Shia’s character a lot in the film. I thought that the story lacked a bit of substance, or maybe the substance was enough and the fact that the film was 2 hours and 45 minutes just saw that substance being flooded in between the minutes. The last 45 minutes were rough to get through and I don’t understand why they didn’t just cut irrelevant scenes. That being said, is this the best Transformers? No. But it is one hell of a movie and the fact that I watched it on IMAX made it just that much more exciting!

Rating: 3.5/5
