A step up from the mediocre first-offering.
Starring: Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet
Plot: THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris and Four are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine, the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
Remarks: After a rather mediocre start to the series, Shailene Woodley and the gang have created a sequel that is better than the first. The first film set the scene for us and in Insurgent the battle really begins. The star of the film, as in Divergent, is Kate Winslet. She play a brilliantly strong Jeanine and manages to make her expressionless character shine. Shailene was better in this film, although, you could see she shot this close to the time she shot The Fault In Our Stars because of that short hair which was a bit annoying. The film had a brilliant story to it – one that starts off with a bang and ends on a cliffhanger. Jeanine has a box that holds the key to the reasoning the world is divided into factions and needs a divergent as strong as Tris to open the box, however, Jeanine is finding it difficult to get Tris to cooperate. The film is rich with, passion, love, suspense and action and if you enjoyed the first one, you will LOVE Insurgent. That being said, there is still something about the franchise that is lacking for me and I can’t quite place my finger on what that is…
Rating: 3.5/5
