Review: The Divergent Series: Allegiant

'The Divergent Series: Allegiant'

The franchise comes to a confusing close as the first half of the finale releases today.

Starring: Shailene Woodley and Theo James

Plot: After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

Remarks: The third installment of the series is supposed to be the last, however, the studio decided to split the film into two which, I feel, did the story a grave injustice. Sure, they ended the film off nicely and it was action-packed but the story felt empty and confusing at times. There is something special about these films. I really like how Tris and Four have developed throughout the franchise. Although the franchise is average at best, I rather enjoyed the film. The set was great and Tris and Four put their relationship to the test more than ever before. The film won’t blow people away, however, if you enjoyed the two previous films you will find that this time around, the film has more substance. I think this will have a hard week at the box office due to Kung Fu Panda 3 being released the same day.

Rating: 3/5

The Divergent Series: Alligiant releases March 18th, 2016.
