Review: The Corrs – White Light

The Corrs
White Light (Warner Music)

Breakdown: After a decade of silence, Irish pop group, The Corrs, have reformed and have dropped their sixth studio album. The band split back in 2005 and ‘White Light’ is their first bit of new material since 2004. However, their new single ‘Bring On The Night’ achieved moderate success and the band has finally dropped their new album.

How Many Good Tracks: 7 of the 12.

What I Liked: After 10 years of silence, The Corrs haven’t lost who they are. The Irish group have given us exactly what we expected. The band is still strong at delivering catchy melodies and adult contemporary music and they sound just as at ease as they were with their last album – despite the break. Although The Corrs haven’t made music in a decade, their new sound not only has their essence, but they’ve managed to adapt their sound to the current music market. The production on the record really stands out and is the only major difference in The Corrs’ music since their last release. The songs are more well-polished and textured which gives their music that extra ‘umph’.

What I Didn’t Like: As much as this isn’t a bad album, I hate how safe the band has played it with this album. The band has’t strayed from their signature sound and although the music fits into their 2016 market, I would have liked to see a bit of growth over a 10-year period. A band’s comeback usually gains them a bunch of new fans, however, this is strictly an album for the fans that The Corrs had before their split. This is a perfect example of how staying in your comfort zone can hurt your career.
