Review: The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro

The best Marvel film yet?

Starring: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone

Plot: Spider-Man has always been different from the rest of the Marvel heroes. He’s fun, he’s cheeky and he’s passionate. In the second instalment of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Peter Parker has some heavy internal problems he battles out. Despite this, Peter loves being Spider-Man. He loves the feeling of doing good, the feeling of swinging between skyscrapers and, of course, the feeling of being with his love Gwen Stacey. After a freak accident, OsCorp employee Max, the biggest Spider-Man fan ever, turns into the evil Electro and heads out on a mission to destroy Spider-Man for good. While this is happening, Peter’s old friend Harry Osborn returns, and needs Spider-Man’s help. When this proves harder than he imagines, the two villains join forces as Spider-Man heads out on his greatest battle yet.

Remarks: I’ve always been a huge Spider-Man fan and I thought that Andrew Garfield played the hero way better than Tobey Maguire. The second film in this instalment is a huge improvement from the first film. Andrew seems to finally be comfortable in his suit and delivers a great performance. I loved the chemistry between Peter and Gwen and I guess it helps that the two actors are indeed a couple in reality. Their passion and chemistry really shine in the film, making it that much better. I also loved Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan’s characters in the film. It was great seeing Spidey battling two foes. The graphics in the film are mind-blowing – but for a film like this, it needs to be. The production team went all out this time around and it really increases the viewers experience. I also loved how cheeky and funny the character becomes in the film after a bit of a dry spell in the first one. Andrew really pulls off being quite the comedian. Oh, then there’s that twist at the end. I guarantee you will leave the cinema with saying “I can’t believe they did that” and that’s the power in this film. I can’t wait to go watch it again!
