Review: Tammy

Not the comedy you were hoping for…

Starring: Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon

Plot: The film starts off with Tammy driving along the highway when she hits a deer and writes off her car after just being fired from her job. As she gets home after her rough day, she finds her husband having a romantic dinner with the neighbour in her own house. Therefore, she feels it’s time to take hit the road and start anew. The bad news is, however, she’s broke and without wheels. However, she soon learns that her grandma, Pearl has a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Maybe a road trip, with grandma riding shotgun, may be just what Tammy needs… Or maybe not.

Remarks: As you can read from the plot, the film doesn’t have a strong story at all. I am a huge fan of Melissa (how funny was she in Identity Thief?) but this is definitely her worst film so far. Don’t get me wrong, she’s still hilarious but her character lacks that umph and her comedy can’t save it. Also, I didn’t enjoy Susan in the film. I think that she was the wrong character to play Pearl in the film and I started to find her quite annoying. I did, however, enjoy Kathy Bates’ cameo in the film. There really is nothing to this film and I wouldn’t even recommend an outing to the movies for this one. That M-Net Sunday night slot should be just fine.

Rating: 2/5

Tammy releases on August 29th, 2014.

My three favourite Melissa McCarthy Movies:

Identity Thief

The Heat

Bridesmaids
