Review: Spy

When the only one who can save the day, is someone you would least expect.

Starring: Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law

Plot: Susan Cooper is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner falls off the grid and another top agent is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global crisis.

Remarks: Melissa McCarthy has literally blown up ever since her epic appearance in Bridesmaids and while her previous performance in Tammy was one of her worst, she has totally redeemed herself with this fliek. ‘Spy’ is hilarious from start to finish and, naturally, Melissa shines in the film. That being said, it was also great seeing Jude Law back on the big screen. Jason Statham, on the other hand, felt a little out-of-place in the film for me. Onto the film, it’s clear that it was beautifully written. The story is well thought out and has a great twist at the end. And I love when I don’t see those twists coming! I love how each of Melissa’s characters in the film are so different from who she really is and she totally rocks at being a crazy cat lady or an old housewife. The film is the ultimate feel good film and will give you those laughs you have been craving from Melissa. I’m just a bit worried that all her films are portraying her as the same character – something that could land up being incredibly dangerous for her career.

Rating: 3.5/5

Spy releases June 5th, 2015.
