Skrillex & Diplo Present Jack Ü (Warner Music)
Breakdown: Skrillex & Diplo Present Jack Ü is the debut studio album from DJs Skrillex and Diplo and has already spawned the smash hit singles ‘Take Ü There’ which featured guest vocals from Kiesza and ‘Where Are Ü Now’ which features Justin Bieber on vocals. While both Skrillex and Diplo are highly respected DJs in their own right, this is the first time the two collaborated on a full record.
How Many Good Tracks: 6 of the 10.
What I Liked: The album has both radio friendly hits as well as more intense dance music to please both commercial music lovers and fans of each DJ as a separate entity. The duo mix and match a variety of genres in a track and a song such as ‘Febreze’ has the electronic sound blended with hip-hop and even reggae so you know that their sound in original and unique. The duo proves that EDM is still progressing and that there is still so much we can expect from the genre.
What I Didn’t Like: The album relies too much on the guest collaborations. If you look at Skrillex’s previous records, he was able to hold a song with hardly any lyrics. While we’re enjoying the collaborations, we do wonder if the duo would be able to hold the beats without the help of vocals distracting the listener. The album is incredibly short as well and once you get into the party mood, the album ends. After the two hits they released before the album dropped, we expected more.
