Review: Selena Gomez – For You

Selena Gomez
For You (Universal Music)

Breakdown: She may only be 22 but Selena Gomez has just released her first greatest hits compilation titled ‘For You’. The record is the final on her current contract to Hollywood Records and was preceded by her incredible new single ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ which has gotten rave reviews from critics around the world. The album has been referenced as a “collection” rather than a greatest hits album by Gomez. The album consists of Gomez’s previous singles, two new songs, and multiple remixes of previously released material.

How Many Good Tracks: 10 of the 15.

What I Liked: The album actually makes one realize just how talented Selena Gomez is and just how many hit songs she’s had in her career so far. The album is mostly filled pop bangers that speak both to Selena’s younger audiences as well as the average Joe who listens to radio but also has some slower songs such as ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’. Another thing I enjoyed on the record was the fact that most of the tracks come from a personal place.

What I Didn’t Like: If I’m honest, it feels way to early for Selena to release a greatest hits compilation. Sure, she managed to put 15 songs on the record but it just doesn’t have the power a greatest hits album carries if it were spanned over a 10 year period for example. Also, I would have liked more than two new songs on the record. That being said, it’s a pleasant album but, honestly, I wouldn’t spend my money on this. Especially with the amount of new albums out at the moment…

Best Track: The Heart Wants What It Wants

Rating: 3/5
