Review: Rudimental – We The Generation

Rudimental
We The Generation (Warner Music)

Breakdown: Their debut album, Home, went multi-platinum around the world and now, British drum and bass act, Rudimental are hoping to replicate that success with their second studio album ‘We The Generation’. The album contains the smash hits ‘Rumour Mill’, ‘Never Let You Go’ and their new collaboration with Ed Sheeran ‘Lay It All On Me’.

How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 14.

What I Liked: On this record, Rudimental have taken the drum and bass sound that was dominant on the first record and elevated it. The songs, this time around, are more commercial and risky and Rudimental did this without losing their identity. The band have a great collection of party songs on this record and there is no doubt that they are incredibly talented at what they do. Thanks to an incredible list of guest vocals from the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lianne La Havas, Will Heard and many more, each track brings something different to the table without changing it up too much to confuse the listener.

What I Didn’t Like: The band did the worst thing a band with tons of hits has done – followed a recipe. There are a few unoriginal tracks which, when paired with the vocals of some of the blander weaker guests, instantly spark one’s finger to reach out to the ‘skip’ button.

Best Track: Rumour Mill (Feat. Anne-Marie & Will Heard)

Rating: 3/5
