Pentatonix
Pentatonix (Deluxe) (Sony Music)
Breakdown: Pentatonix are an American acapella group famous for covering tracks we know and love. Now, the band has released an album predominantly consisting of original material. The album’s lead single’ Can’t Sleep Love’ has proved that even when singing original material, the band has what it takes to make it big!
How Many Good Tracks: 10 of the 17.
What I Liked: Acapella has become huge over the past few years. Glee and Pitch Perfect has proven that the world is obsessed with the genre and looking at this album as a whole, it’s quite refreshing to hear such a well done, polished, catchy acapella album. Vocally, the group is amazing and the way they blend their voices together is brilliantly done. There are moments of pop gold on the record and I can’t believe that every sound is actually coming from the mouths of five people. In that regard, Pentatonix could easily be the best acapella group in the world at the moment.
What I Didn’t Like: If I unpack the album and look at each track individually, there’s a spark that’s missing. Sure, this band is super talented but there are too many songs that are mediocre at best. This might be because, lyrically, the group has a long way to grow. However, I am impressed.
