Review: One Direction – Four

One Direction
Four (Sony Music)

Breakdown: As the album title suggests, the world’s biggest boy band One Direction are back with their fourth studio album! The album was preceded by the smash hit single ‘Steal My Girl’ and the group have just released the second single off the record titled ‘Night Changes’. Upon release, the album shot to number one in countless countries around the world, proving that these boys are still here – and they’re here to stay!

How Many Good Tracks: 4 of the 12.

What I Liked: The music is simple. It’s catchy and you will quickly find a song that resonates with you. It’s fun, it’s silly, it’ll lift your spirits and it’s a great contrast to the many albums out at the moment that don’t have such a cheerful undertone. Vocally, the band are the best they have ever been. Harry, Zayn, Niall and Liam are showing off big time on the record, while Louis, could do with some vocal training.

What I Didn’t Like: This is the most predictable and most unoriginal album of the year so far. Sure, there are some decent pop songs on the record but nothing differentiates the boys since their second studio album and while I know it works for them, it’s clear that One Direction are all about making money and have become lazy in their music making. There is nothing that makes the band stand out now and it’s a dangerous game to play – especially with bands such as The Vamps, 5 Seconds of Summer and Union J popping up.

Best Track: Stockholm Syndrome

Rating: 2/5
