Major Lazer
Peace Is The Mission (Warner Music)
Breakdown: If you’ve listened to the radio at all this year, I can guarantee that you’ve heard Major Lazer’s smash hit single ‘Lean On’, which features DJ Snake and MØ. The track has become one of the biggest tracks of 2015 and now, Diplo and his team have just released their third studio album “Peace Is The Mission”.
How Many Good Tracks: 6 of the 9.
What I Liked: There is no denying that there is some brilliant music on this record. ‘Lean On’ and the new single ‘Powerful’ featuring Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley, is proof of that. Diplo is a genius at what he does and the production on this album is incredible. Each song on the album is fresh, different and has its own flavour – something many musicians don’t do a lot these days. Lyrically, the album is a lot better than the previous two which focused on the music more than the story.
What I Didn’t Like: Just as I started getting into this album, it ended. The record has a disappointing nine songs. Sure, they may be fantastic songs but the truth of the matter is that an album with nine songs makes me feel as if I’m wasting money. Fans of the group will also be disappointed to hear that there is a bigger pop influence on this record and their signature reggae sounds are sort of pushed into the background on this album.
Best Track: Lean On (Feat. DJ Snake and MØ)
