Lukas Graham (Warner Music)

Breakdown: Danish group, Lukas Graham, have achieved world domination with their incredibly successful single ‘7 Years’ and have just dropped their self-titled album around the world. The second single off the record is a track called ‘Mama Said’ which samples Andrea McArdle’s It’s the Hard-Knock Life.

How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 11.

What I Liked: As with the album’s lead single, the songwriting on the album is the strongpoint on the album. Each song is more of a mini story than a pop song. The songs, are full of emotion, feeling and are close to home yet are still catchy enough to be considered pop music – a recipe which has definitely helped the group with their international success. This is a happy album and Lukas and the band find the silver lining to many situations which serves as a form of comfort. The album is also long enough to keep the listener entertained but short enough to ensure boredom doesn’t set it.

What I Didn’t Like: The album has one clear direction and the songs seem to follow the same recipe. I would have liked to see the band push boundaries and try something different on some of the songs. This is a solid album from the Danish group.

Best Track: 7 Years

Rating: 4/5
