Review: Locnville – Taste The Weekend

Locnville
Taste The Weekend (Warner Music)

Breakdown: After releasing a greatest hits album earlier this year, Locnville have joined forces with Warner Music South Africa for their first major label debut – Taste The Weekend. The album features the smash hit singles ‘Grapevine’ and ‘Cold Shoulder’ and is the most authentic album the boys have released to date.

How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 12.

What I Liked: This is possibly Locnville’s finest and most-polished work to date. The production on the record is out of this world and each track offers something different. I think this versatility is something that proves what amazing artists the boys are. Locnville have done a lot of experimenting with their previous material and now, they’ve blended everything that worked into an impressive collection of tracks. The album is edgy, ahead of the curve and more melodic than any of the recent material we’ve heard from the boys. This album sees the boys come full circle. I’ve never heard them more comfortable and its clear that this is music that the boys are passionate about – and we all know magic happens when passion is blended with talent.

What I Didn’t Like: This album took me a lot of time to wrap my head around. Lyrically, the album is more explicit than we’ve ever seen the boys. Songs about drugs, cheating and girls dominate the album and, to be honest, it’s shocking on first listen. However, the boys are 26 years old now, they can’t be singing ‘Sun In My Pocket’ anymore, can they?

Best Track: Just Like Me

Rating: 3.5/5
