Review: Lily Allen – Sheezus

Lily Allen
Sheezus (Warner Music)

Breakdown: It’s the highly anticipated third studio album from British singer Lily Allen. The album was preceded by the hilarious ‘Hard Out Here’ as well as other singles ‘Air Balloon’, ‘Our time’ and the new single ‘Sheezus’. The album’s title is a play-off of Kanye West and his ‘Yeezus’ persona. Lily Allen went on a break to raise her two children and I’m so glad she’s back because we all missed her!

Tracks We Didn’t Skip: 11 of the 17.

What I Liked: Lily Allen is hilarious! Debut single ‘Hard Out Here’ reminded us all why we love Lily Allen so much and the record is filled with these comedic tracks. Lily’s voice is also incredibly unique silky voice and it shines on the record. Lily also moved with the times and has recorded some banging pop singles. Lily is back and fans will definitely be happy about this.

What I Didn’t Like: While I love the comedic undertones in her tracks, it tends to get a little bit too much by the end of the record. Sometimes you just want a song with deep lyrics, you know? This did lead me to skip a few tracks on the record. Lyrically, the album lacks the substance that her previous two albums had as well.

Best Track: Hard Out Here clearly shines but I love title track Sheezus as well as URL Badman.

Rating: 3/5
