Review: Lila & Eve

How your child’s murder can mess with your mind.

Starring: Viola Davis and Jennifer Lopez

Plot: Lila, a grief-stricken mother reeling from her son’s murder, attends a support group where she meets Eve, who urges her to take matters into her own hands to track down her son’s killers. They soon embark on a journey of revenge, but also recovery.

Remarks: After watching ‘How To Get Away With Murder’, I was itching to see Viola Davis tackle this role. It’s not an easy role to play, that of a mother whose son just got murdered. Viola, however, brilliantly portrayed this. From the anger, the tears, the isolation, the coming to terms, she was spot on with every aspect of dealing with this sort of grief. The film starts off slow but picks up really nicely when Lila and Eve start their search for revenge. The film shows how a mother blurs the lines between wrong and right after dealing with a loss of a child – especially when the police struggle to solve the case. The film is far from as simple as it comes across and there is a great twist towards the end of the film. It may not be your first choice when it releases, but you should definitely give this film a watch!

Rating: 4/5

Lila & Eve releases August 8th, 2015.
