Review: Let’s Be Cops

This is what happens when two immature men take a prank too far.

Starring: Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson

Plot: The film has been called “the ultimate buddy cop movie” but there’s one problem… Ryan and Justin are not cops. The two have actually failed to succeed in their careers and when the two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighbourhood sensations. After getting a lot more attention than they’re used to because of their outfits, these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives and they must put their fake badges on the line.

Remarks: This film reminded me a lot of Ride Along except for the fact that there are two maniacs trying to be vigilantes. The chemistry between Jake and Damon was great and one could see that they are close in reality. That being said, the story was quite weak. The film was rather predictable and isn’t something out of the ordinary. But, there are some hilarious moments in the film which make up for that. The film is quite relatable and I think many of us want to achieve more and for these guys, just putting on a police uniform instantly made them a hit with their town. It’s a film you can easily miss but if you’re keen for a bit of a laugh, go watch Let’s Be Cops!

Rating: 3/5
