Idina Menzel
Holiday Wishes (Warner Music)
Breakdown: She’s the voice of Elsa in the biggest Disney film of all time ‘Frozen’ and now Idina Menzel is riding that wave with her very own Christmas album she names ‘Holiday Wishes’. It is her first album in six years, however, her fourth album overall. I find it odd, however, that she would release a Christmas album because of the fact that she is Jewish. Despite this, she said “I know I’m Jewish. But a lot of famous Jewish people have written Christmas songs, so I’m going to try out some of their songs on the album.”
How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 12.
What I Liked: Idina Menzel is a Broadway queen and her vocals are perfect for a Christmas album. The vocals are strong and powerful when need be and delicate and beautiful when needed as well. The album is also packed with many Christmas favourites such as ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ which features the king of Christmas – Michael Buble.
What I Didn’t Like: Despite her strong vocals, this is the perfect album to be played softly in a store during Christmas time. The album, also, isn’t memorable and I doubt that it will become a classic like the albums Mariah Carey and even Kelly Clarkson have released. Also, since Idina is Jewish, it would have been awesome to add some Channukah music to the album.
Best Track: ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ featuring Michael Buble.
