A perfect way to waste your money this Valentine’s Day
Starring: Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson
Plot: There’s a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then…there’s Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun.
Remarks: I, like many of you reading this, am a big fan of Rebel Wilson so, naturally, I was excited to see this film. However, I was so disappointed. The trailer does a perfect job of selling the film, however, all the best bits are shown in the teaser and the film lands up falling flat. Firstly, Dakota is still as bland and boring as she was in ’50 Shades of Grey’. Her character may resonate with a few people but is so annoying. Rebel is clearly paid the big bucks to draw in the audience, however, her character is too much. Her character is so vulgar and dirty. Sure, these jokes could be fun but not in abundance like they are in this film. The story isn’t the strongest, however, it’s different from the other predictable rom-coms which is great. I liked the fact that the film sort of follows the lives of a few characters and their development throughout the film was entertaining. The star of the film is undoubtedly Leslie Mann. She is so hilarious in this role and her storyline outshines the main characters. All-in-all, this film will make you laugh a few times, but rather spend your Valentine’s Day watching literally anything else.
Rating: 2/5
