Review: Exodus: Gods and Kings

An epic retelling of this biblical story

Starring: Christian Bale and Ben Kingsley

Plot: Ridley Scott’s Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings stars Christian Bale as Moses who, as the film opens, fights alongside his brother Ramses to help defend Egypt, which is ruled by their father, Seti. During battle, Moses saves Ramses life, causing Ramses to fear that his brother will one day be King because it fits with a prophecy handed down by one of Seti’s trusted spiritualists. Soon after Seti’s death, Moses, who is actually Jewish and not Egyptian, is banished. However, he becomes the leader of the Jewish people and leads a rebellion, with the help of a wrathful God, against that Egyptians.

Remarks: This is your must-watch film this festive season. Ridley Scott tells the story in a way you’ve never seen before. The 3D and special effects are incredible, the costumes are spectacular and, despite knowing the story, you will be at the edge of your seat throughout the film. Christian Bale plays a spectacular Moses but Joel Edgarton shines as Ramses. There are a few downfalls to the film such as God being played by a child and other weird happenings but overall, Ridley Scott hit the nail on the head with this one. You won’t even feel that the film is just under two and a half hours long.

Rating: 4/5

Exodus: Gods and Kings releases on December 24th, 2014.
