Review: Disclosure – Caracal

Disclosure
Caracal (Universal Music)

Breakdown: Brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence, otherwise known as Disclosure, are finally back with their second studio album. The record has already spawned hits such as ‘Jaded’, ‘Omen’ and ‘Holding On’ and features collaborations from the likes of Sam Smith, Lorde, The Weeknd, Miguel and many more. The duo stick to the underground pop/house sound which is becoming more and more popular and they’re cementing themselves as frontrunners in this field.

How Many Good Tracks: 8 of the 11.

What I Liked: Disclosure push boundaries. Their music is different, exciting and they refuse to stick to the norm. The duo produce music that sounds good and don’t necessarily stick to a recipe which allows their creative freedom to blossom. “We were like, “F–k it, this is the point where the album is beginning to not just be house, [but] loads of things,” Guy said in an interview recently. They have crafted a sound that is unique and have enlisted a variety of A-Listers to bring their music to life which adds depth to many of their tracks.

What I Didn’t Like: While the music seems to tick all the boxes, this is a very difficult album to listen to from start to finish. Boredom seems to strike around halfway when their production style becomes predictable. Compared to their debut album, Settle, this album doesn’t quite compare.

Best Track: Magnets (Feat. Lorde)

Rating: 3.5/5
