Breakdown: There’s a new name on the local Afrikaans music scene. Chris Else is turning heads thanks to the release of his debut single ‘Gebreekte Glas’ and he has just released his debut self-titled EP as he introduces himself to the industry.
How Many Good Tracks: 3 of the 5.
What I Liked: Chris has a lovely voice. He is young, fresh and has the potential to do big things in the industry. His voice reminds us a bit of Bobby Van Jaarsveld and shine on the country-inspired EP. The Afrikaans tracks are written wonderfully and the adult-contemporary sound he has chosen will identify with a lot of people around the country.
What I Didn’t Like: I would have liked a full-length album to introduce me to Chris’ music, though. The EP only has five tracks and two of them are covers which make understanding who Chris is an artist rather difficult. I think if Chris spent a bit more time on his debut, his impact would be stronger and his introduction more memorable.
