Review: Chris Brown & Tyga – Fan Of A Fan: The Album (Deluxe Edition)

Chris Brown & Tyga
Fan Of A Fan: The Album (Deluxe Edition) (Sony Music)

Breakdown: After the incredible success of the Fan of a Fan mixtape, Chris Brown and Tyga have joined forces and decided to create an album together. The record was preceded by the smash hit single ‘Ayo’ which is still climbing up the charts.

How Many Good Tracks: 11 of the 16.

What I Liked: I knew Chris Brown and Tyga can create some brilliant music (uh, how awesome was Dueces) but I was a bit worried about a full album together. Luckily, these two really compliment each other and makes the album feel sort of effortless on their part. The production on the record is brilliant. You can tell a song is going to be a banger or not from the first beat on this record and that’s something both brilliant and dangerous for the duo. Each track on the album is carefully crafted and it’s easily seen and even each guest artist is carefully chosen. Lyrically, this album is on point as well. Besides for one thing…

What I Didn’t Like: The album is incredibly dirty with tons of swearing. Sure, it’s expected on a hip-hop album but this felt a bit too much. Also, Tyga is a bit of a drag on many of the songs and it’s as if Chris Brown saves many of the songs from becoming a huge mess. It’s a weird chemistry but it seems to work. Also, this album lacked in one thing – ballads. I know X was full of them, but I wanted some sexy tracks from the duo and kept waiting until the last song ended, leaving me disappointed.

Best Track: Bitches N Marijuana as well as She Goin’ Up. Ayo is a banger as well.

Rating: 3.5/5
