Review: Bok Van Blerk – Sing Afrikaner Sing

Bok Van Blerk
Sing Afrikaner Sing (Coleske Artists)

Breakdown: He can sing, act and put on one hell of a show so it’s no surpise that Afrikaans singer, Bok Van Blerk, has recently dropped his fifth studio album. The album’s first single (and title track), Sing Afrikaner Sing, has become one of his biggest hits to date and the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

How Many Good Tracks: 7 of the 13.

What I Liked: There is a lot of variety on the album. From big pop tracks like the lead single, to the country-influenced ‘Hou Jou Voete Op Die Grond’ to the traditional Boere music-sounding ‘Soos In Die Ou Dae’, Bok isn’t afriad to experiment and therefore, this album has something for everyone. Bok teamed up with legendary songwriter Johan Voster on this record so you can expect some great songs on this record. As the title suggests, this is an album celebrating Afrikaans heritage and it’s great seeing artists doing their bit to keep that heritage and culture alive.

What I Didn’t Like: The album doesn’t blow me away. Bok struggles vocally on certain notes and, unfortunately, the album lacks that spark. This doesn’t mean that this is a bad album per se, I just expected a bit more from the star.

Best Track: Sing Afrikaner Sing

Rating: 3/5
