Blur
The Magic Whip (Warner Music)
Breakdown: English rockers, Blur, who are super famous for their smash hit ‘Song 2’, are back with their eighth studio album ‘The Magic Whip’. The record is their first album in 12 years and the news was met by much excitement. The album has already spawned videos for “Go Out”, “There Are Too Many of Us” and “Lonesome Street”.
How Many Good Tracks: 9 of the 12.
What I Liked: Although they’ve been absent for over a decade, it seems Blur remember every essence of being a great artist – and this is very evident in their music. The tracks on the record are solid and it’s clear that a lot of blood, sweat and tears was put into this album. The composition of the tracks have also been cleverly done and the Blur sound we know and love is clearly evident in each of the tracks on the record. The band have stayed true to who they are and who they have always been in this record and that’s always a beautiful thing to see in music. This is one of the greatest comebacks of 2015.
What I Didn’t Like: Every time I listen to a track off this album I feel like I’m listening to an album that was released ages ago. It’s such a strange feeling. While the record is a good one, it feels rather dated. Sure, I guess that is the feeling they were going for but c’mon, it’s 2015 guys!
