Review: Blended

The stars go to our very own Sun City for the holiday of a lifetime!

Starring: Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore

Plot: After a blind date goes horribly wrong, Jim and Lauren agree that they never, ever want to see each other again. However, after Lauren’s best friend (who is dating Jim’s boss) break up, they each find themselves and their respective families (including children) all stuck together as they travel to South Africa on the holiday of a lifetime. Naturally, the two start to develop feelings for each other and realize that they are more compatible than they thought.

Remarks: Firstly, it is important to remember that this is an Adam Sandler film so you know this isn’t going to win any awards. Adam and Drew make such a damn good team and their chemistry is just electric. The film will definitely get you laughing. I don’t really enjoy the slapstick humour that Adam constantly uses throughout the film but there are some genuinely funny moments. I thought the story was great and there are small elements to it that really elevate it from being generic. The film does get boring but luckily for us, the views of Sun City distract us as we aren’t used to such familiar surroundings on big budget international films. I remember being at Sun City while the cast were filming and it was a great experience to watch. The film is cute but does leave the viewer disappointed. Adam is competing with many other comedies out soon such as Bad Neighbours and Sex Tape so he needs to step up his game.

Rating: 2.5/5

Blended releases on July 4th 2014.
