Blackbyrd
Home (Coleske Artists)
Breakdown: The girls of Blackbyrd wowed the country with their sweet pop country tunes on their debut album Strong and they’re finally back with their follow-up album titled ‘Home’. The album was preceded by the debut single ‘I Love You, I Just Simply Do’ and is the first album to feature Axene who replaced Samantha who left the band shortly after their debut album was released.
How Many Good Tracks: 11 of the 15.
What I Liked: The album sees a well more polished, well-rounded album from the girls and it’s exactly what the local industry needs. Each song on the album is a beautiful story that unfolds in front of your very eyes. You can tell the girls worked hard on each and every song. Taryn’s vocals on this album are absolutely incredible and I don’t think many South African musicians can compete with her in the vocal department. Let’s hope the girls manage to go gold with this album as well!
What I Didn’t Like: The music is for a specific adult contemporary market and that’s about it. Many of the songs are stripped down and they have lost a bit of their country flair with this record. Sure, they still have three or four tracks reminiscent of their previous album but I was hoping for some more country bangers.
Best Track: You Shoot Me Down
